Cask Codes and How to Interpret Them - Wheated Bourbon Cask

When importing younger rums, we try to match those rums with hand-selected casks for additional aging. When we bottle a particular rum, we try to provide some information on the label to help our customers identify the type of cask used.

One of our most popular cask types we like to use is a wheated boubron cask from different Kentucky distilleries. For these bottles, you’ll notice one of the following cask codes: WLR, WLR12, WLR14, ORVW, or HHOF19.

Depending on the mashbill and distillery of the wheated bourbon and the cooperage and toast/char profile of the cask, these wheated bourbon casks typically add sweet pastry and light berry notes to the rum aging in the cask.
